Gates Foundation Grant Funds First-Ever Waterless, Solar-Powered Toilet

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has granted $777,000 to University of Colorado Boulder to develop a waterless toilet manned by solar power.

The toilet is claimed to transform the lives of 2.5 billion people around the world who are deprived of safe and sustainable sanitation. The innovative toilet heats human waste into biochar, a porous charcoal that can help improve crop yields and cut off greenhouse gases.
