India is set to take over the G20 presidency in 2023, and a new report from a philanthropic group is urging the country to make climate change a priority.
The report from Dasra and the Observer Research Foundation looks at the intersection of climate change and sustainable development in India, with a particular focus on the key Sustainable Development Goals that are "most vulnerable to the effects of climate change," per the Indian Express.
"Despite climate change being a global concern, the situation being particularly grave in India is only 10% of the global concern," says Neera Dasra, the founder of Dasra and a co-founder of the Observer Research Foundation.
"We need to talk about interlinkages and inspire actors to engage for climate action."
The report looks at 17 case studies from around the world, including India, Indonesia, and China, showing how climate change is already having a "profound implications for all aspects of human life and the planet," Dasra says in a press release.
The report notes that while India's government has taken steps to reduce carbon emissions, they haven't done enough to reduce the country's reliance on fossil fuels, per the Guardian.
