The Importance of Innovation in Education

When India's schoolkids went on strike in October due to the Covid-19 virus, teachers, administrators, parents, and communities came together to make sure kids got an education, Quartz reports.

One such group was the Covid-19 organization, which kept schools open during the strike with the help of mobile phones, radio, TV, and other means.

"These individuals adapted and utilized various methods such as mobile phones, online platforms, radio, TV, house-to-house visits, and distribution of printed materials to ensure students had access to education," says a post at Quartz.

Among the examples cited: A teacher in Gujarat used a public address system to teach lessons, while another took the school to children's homes on a motorcycle.

A teacher in the central state of Chhattisgarh also took the school to children's homes on a motorcycle.

And yet another teacher in the northern state of Uttarakhand used an app to send students to school, Quartz notes.

"Digital infrastructure can facilitate innovation and have a transformative impact," says a post at Quartz.

"In India, initiatives such as UPI, UPI, and Digilocker have demonstrated the positive effects of digital infrastructure on inclusion and innovation."
