The Auen Foundation is known for its support of the arts, and California's Coachella Valley Repertory is no exception.
The nonprofit theater company has been awarded a $30,000 grant from the foundation to expand its youth outreach program, which currently consists of in-school educational outreach, conservatory-style classes, and theatrical experiences, per a press release.
Under the leadership of Howard Shangraw, CVREP's Youth Outreach Program consists of in-school educational outreach, conservatory-style classes, and theatrical experiences at the Cathedral City playhouse.
"With about 80% of CVREP's base audience over the age of 65, CVREP is working to build community and connect generations through classes, volunteer programs, talk-back sessions, youth productions, and more," says Shangraw.
"This interplay between seniors and our community's youth is instrumental in bridging age gaps, nurturing mentorship, and ensuring that the wisdom of the past is imparted to future performers and theater audiences," adds Shangraw, who has been involved in off-Broadway productions, feature films, episodic television, daytime soap operas, and regional theater productions, per Patch.com.
