"We have no time to lose in bringing promising technologies to the mainstream in public health initiatives," Dr. Taslimarif Saiyed says.
Saiyed is the CEO of C-CAMP, a not-for-profit in India that has teamed up with the State Bank of India's Foundation to create the country's first Antimicrobial Resistance Challenge.
The goal is to find solutions to the growing problem of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the country, which has some of the highest rates of infections in the world, the BBC reports.
The challenge, which is accepting applications until Jan.
21, seeks solutions in three categories: AMR in Human Health, AMR in One Health, and Late-stage Innovations in AMR.
"We are excited to see the nationwide AMR Challenge in One Health being initiated with SBI Foundation," Saiyed says.
"C-CAMP has a long history of identifying and nurturing world-class innovative AMR solutions from India," he adds, per the Press Trust of India.
"This is of critical importance since the alarm bells on AMR are ringing across the world and more so in developing economies like India."
The SBI Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the State Bank of India, will provide funding of up to $5 million to the winner of the challenge,
