The world's longest-serving member of the House of Representatives is stepping down from his post at the end of the year, the AP reports.

Rep.

Manny Pacquiao has announced that he will not seek re-election in November and will resign from the House of Representatives at the end of the year.

"I have decided to resign from the House of Representatives to focus on my future as a senator," he said in a statement.

The 72-year-old Pacquiao has been in the House since 2001 and has been a member of the Senate since 2004.

He was elected to the House in 2001 and to the Senate in 2004.
