The Maryland State Retirement and Pension System (SRPS) Board of Trustees voted unanimously Tuesday to establish a Climate Advisory Panel.
The panel will advise the board and staffers in the SRPS Investment Division on ways to address and mitigate climate risk when considering investments.
A study conducted for Maryland environmental groups found that the state pension and retirement system was increasingly losing return on its investments in 162 large publicly traded oil and coal companies.
