On Thanksgiving Day in 1937, the Carroll Theatre in Westminster, Md., opened its doors to the public for the first time.

Today, it's the home of the Carroll County Arts Council.

The nonprofit has been operating out of the old theater since 2003, when it bought the building for $310,000, the Baltimore Sun reports.

Since then, it's hosted everything from children's shows to film screenings, and it's become "one of the best and most active in the state," according to the arts council's website.

But it's not all glitz and glamour.

The center's executive director tells the Carroll News-Post that the theater is a "microcosm of what the arts can do" for a community.

It also serves as a sort of "microcosm of what Carroll County is all about," she says.

"It's a snapshot of what Carroll County is all about."
